The Bangladesh flag looks remarkably like the flag of Japan except that the Bangladesh flag has a green background instead of a white background. Both the flag of Japan and the Bangladeshi flag have a large red disc just off center of the flag, so that when the flag is hoisted in the air the red disc will appear to be in the center of the flag. In the flag of Bangladesh, the red disc is supposed to stand for the sun rising over Bengal, and the red disc also symbolizes the blood of the citizens who died fighting for the independence of Bangladesh. The green background in the Bangladeshi flag represents the land of Bangladesh. The original design of the Bangladesh flag had an outline map of the country of Bangladesh drawn in yellow and overlaid on the red disc but the current incarnation of the Bangladesh flag doesn’t have the map overlay on the red disc. Bangladesh didn’t have its own flag for many years, because it was under British control. Bangladesh is a small country that is surrounded on three sides by India, so when the British were in control of India they had political control of Bangladesh also. Bangladesh was also under the control of Pakistan and found a bloody war for independence against Pakistan. Indian forces stepped in and helped Bangladesh win freedom from Pakistan in 1971 although since then the country has faced a lot of political instability and turmoil. Most of the citizens of Bangladesh are uneducated and poor.
