Belize adopted the current flag after the country won independence from the United Kingdom in the 1980’s. The flag of Belize has been changed a few times over the years because the original design was thought to be too close to the flag of one of the new political parties in the country and people who didn’t favor that political party wanted the design of the Belize flags changed so that they didn’t look like they belonged to the People’s United Party. Since the country had just gained independence the new government was very concerned about people misreading the meaning of the new flag and so the changes to the flag of Belize were approved to prevent any confusion. The flag of Belize has a blue background with a thin vertical stripe of red at both the top and bottom of the flag. There is a white circle in the center of the flag of Belize. Imprinted in the circle is the national emblem of Belize which is printed in several different colors and has some quite detailed imagery that can be hard to see on a flag when it’s flying.

The national flag of Belize is unique because it has more colors in the flag than any other nation. Describing all the colors in the flag of Belize can be tough because there are twelve actual colors used in the flag.
