The Bulgarian flag has changed a lot through the years. The Bulgaria flag used to look similar to the Russian flag but then the people of Bulgaria changed the design of the flag so that it wouldn’t be confused for the Russian flag. The flag of Bulgaria consists of three equal horizontal bands of white, green, and red. The white band symbolizes peace, the green band symbolizes fertility, and the red band symbolizes the courage of the Bulgarian people. The Bulgarian flag is well known despite having gone through many changes. The national flag of Bulgaria is flown on all official Bulgarian holidays and many people also have a small Bulgarian flag displayed in their homes. The people of Bulgaria are very attached to the current flag design which was adopted after the Communist government of Bulgaria was ousted. Bulgaria is now a republic and is proud to fly a flag of freedom in the capitol city. No matter what flag flies over the country of Bulgaria the Bulgarian people are proud of their long history and proud of being known as the birthplace of European culture. At various points in European history the Bulgarians have changed the design of the flag to represent the different political leaders and political styles that the country had but most Bulgarians agree that the current parliamentary political system and the current flag are the best ones yet although the future might bring an even stronger Bulgaria and a better flag design.

History Of Bulgaria

Most people don’t know that Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in the world and is considered to be one of the birthplaces of European culture. Bulgaria had the first written culture and language in Europe and many experts say that a lot of European customs came from Bulgarian influences and from the people who inhabited Bulgaria and then spread throughout Europe. There are records documenting a version of Bulgarian society that existed more than 6000 years ago making Bulgaria one of the first civilizations in Europe. Bulgaria was occupied thousands of years ago by the Thracians, and found in several wars against Arab invaders trying to take over Europe. Interestingly, Bulgaria is one of only a few countries that still has a thriving population of the Roma people, or gypsies. As much as 40% of the population of modern day Bulgaria is thought to be Roma, and while the Roma have been very scarce in the rest of Europe since WWII the Roma population of Bulgaria continues to thrive.
