Canada Provincial Flags
Just like the United States, Canada has a national flag of Canada and the provinces also have provincial flags. Each one of the ten provinces and at least one of the three territories has their own flag and own design. The Canadian national flag as well as the Canada Provincial flags are flown at many official events and functions as well as at many homes and estates. When flown for official functions it is common to place the federal and provincial flags in order of their date of entry into the Confederation. The order of the flags therefore would be Ontario (entering in 1867), Quebec (entering in 1867), Nova Scotia (entering in 1867), New Brunswick (entering in 1867), Manitoba (entering in 1870), British Columbia (entering in 1871), Prince Edward Island (entering in 1873), Saskatchewan (entering in 1905), Alberta (entering in 1905) and Newfoundland (entering in 1949). Most often it is a custom to also display the flags of the Canadian territories in alphabetical order. The honorable first position is always taken by the Canadian national flag and is therefore the farthest on the left.
Just as with many of the United States states, each of the provinces of Canada has adopted a motto that is displayed on the coat of arms. Some of the coat of arms are used on Canadian provincial flags, while others do have their own creative design. But most provinces did not design their own flag right after entering into the Confederation. One of the earliest provinces to have their own formal and official flag was British Columbia.
Canadian Provincial flags can be bought at many dealers across Canada and the United States as well as with retailers online.
