Colorado Flag
The Colorado state flag has a more horizontal and circle design. Three equal sized stripes are covering the Colorado flag horizontally. The top and bottom of the three stripes are a dark blue while the middle stripe is white. On top of the blue and white stripes is a red C filled with a golden yellow circle located. The blue in Colorado’s state flag represents the blue of the skies in Colorado, while the white is meant to stand for the snowcapped mountains. The golden circle in the C represents the golden sun over Colorado and the red color of the C is for the red earth in Colorado. Colorado’s flag was designed in 1911 by Andrew Carlisle Johnson's and soon after adopted on June 5th 1911 by Colorado State. As per the Colorado official homepage, the flag was adopted to be used on all occasions when the state is officially and publicly represented and laws pertaining the use of the United States national flag also apply to the Colorado flag. Before the flag was adopted, Colorado used the United States Flag since their entering as 38th state into the Union in 1876.
Since the colors as well as the golden circle and the C size were not properly specified, several versions of the flag were available in the beginning. In 1929 the colors were then specified to be the exact shade of the United States national flag. Therefore there were no longer any color variations but it was not until 1964 that the legislature specified in written law that the diameter of the golden circle had to be equal to the white center stripe and the C at a distance from the pole of one fifth of the length of the flag. The diameter of the letter C has to be two thirds of the flag’s width and the golden circle has to completely fill the inside of the C. For further specifications please check the Colorado national home page.
