Delaware Flag
The Delaware state flag also has a very beautiful center design. A diamond in the color of buff on a colonial blue background holds the coat of arms of the state of Delaware. The words or better the date “DECEMBER 7, 1787” states the date on which the state became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution. The colors of the Delaware flag resemble the colors on the uniform worn by George Washington. The coat of arms displayed on the diamond displays an ornate shield with horizontal blue, white and green stripes (this order from top to bottom). In the white stripe an Ox is standing on the green grass stripe and just above the blue stripe a corn of cob and a sheaf of wheat are displayed. These symbols on the coat of arms where chosen to represent Delaware’s agriculture. Depicted right above the shield is a blue and silver heraldic wreath and above that a sailing ship. The shield is hold by a soldier on the right side of the shield and a farmer on the left side of the shield. The soldier is dressed in a green uniform and the farmer in a burgundy red shirt with brown pants.
Below the shield a banner states the state’s motto, “Liberty and Independence”. The exact description and colors of the flag as well as the coat of arms can found with the state of Delaware and the colors are also specified with several color standardizing organizations such as the National Bureau of Standards. Some of this information can be found on the official Delaware state web page. The governors flag of Delaware is very similar to the Delaware state flag with the exception that the flag has to be golden rimmed and the pole has to have a model of a blue hen’s fighting cock mounted on top. The current flag of Delaware was adopted in 1913.
