The History Of Hungary

Hungary has a long history that is not well known by most people. Like most of the countries in Central Europe Hungary tends to be a little mysterious to people outside the country and outside of Central Europe. Hungary, or the Republic of Hungary as it is officially called, is a lcountry in the Carpathian Basin of Central Europe, bordered by Austria, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia. Its capital is Budapest. Hungary has been a member state of the European Union since 2001. Most people don’t know that Budapest has a series of expansive tunnels underneath the history that were used extensively during the second World War as a place for the military leaders to plan attacks against the Fascists and also as an underground hospital. The tunnels were built from natural caves that surround the city and have been in existence for millennia. After the Communist takeover of Budapest the tunnels were discovered and Communists built up the tunnels into a highly effective fallout bunker stocked with gas masks, medicine, food and water, and they even installed a ventilation system to allow people to live in the tunnels indefinitely in the event of an attack. The supplies trucked into the tunnels by the Communists are still there today, because most of the people of Budapest don’t know the tunnels are there.
