The Indiana state flag has a very simple but impressive design. A golden torch emitting three rays on each side surrounded by 19 stars is in the center of the flags design. The golden torch stands for liberty and enlightenment while the rays stand for Illinois and the torches far reaching influence and the bigger concept of enlightenment and liberty. The stars are also arranged on purpose.

One star right above the torch represents Indiana and this is also indicated by the word Indiana right above the star. This star is the largest star on the flag. There are thirteen stars in an outer circle around the torch these stars represent the thirteen original colonies. The inner circle hold 5 stars for the other five states entering the United States union before Indiana.
