Kentucky Flag

The Kentucky state flag reminds some people of the state flag of Kansas, with the blue background and the state seal in the center. The middle of Kentucky’s state flag is adorned by the Seal of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and right above the seal the words “Commonwealth of Kentucky” in big golden letters are placed in a semi-circle. The navy blue field is a stark contrast to the white inner background of the seal. The other half of the circle around the seal is filled with sprigs of Kentucky’s state flower, the Goldenrod. The design of the Kentucky flag originated from an art teacher from Frankfort Kentucky, Jesse Cox. The Kentucky General Assembly adopted the Kentucky

flag in 1918 but ten years later in 1928 the design was changed slightly to its finalized version. The Seal on Kentucky’s flag shows two people, very likely two friends, embracing each other. It is believed in Kentucky that the man on the left is Daniel Boone and the man on the right is Henry Clay. Daniel Boone is the explorer that discovered most of Kentucky's land and Henry Clay is Kentucky’s most popular and famous statesman. But the states description of the men in the seal and therefore the ones one Kentucky’s state flag area representation of all men in the state as well as for all frontiersmen. Around the two men in another circle are the words of Kentucky’s state motto “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. Above the men is the part “United we stand” and below the part “Divided We Fall”. The Motto of Kentucky was derived from a famous patriotic song, “The Liberty Song” from the American Revolution.
