Nebraska Flag
The Nebraska state flag is so much alike to many other state flags that carry a state symbol on a dark blue background. One fact that is very sure about the state flag of Nebraska it is one of the last state flag to be adopted which therefore makes Nebraska one of the last states to adopt a state banner. The Nebraska flag was adopted in 1925 as the official banner of Nebraska. The banner was finally adopted in 1963 as state flag of Nebraska. Nebraska’ state flag bears the state seal in the center in the colors of gold and silver and the background needs to have the national blue color. The state seal of Nebraska displayed on the flag was designed in 1867 by Isaac Wiles. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives. The seal shows a blacksmith hammering metal on an anvil. In the background, sheaves of wheat, a settler’s cabin and a river with a steam boat as well as the transcontinental railroad.
Even further in the background are mountains and some other scenery. The seal also holds the state motto “Equality Before the Law” is written on a ribbon above the scenery on top. Around the seal in a ring with blue background is written “GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF NEBRAKSA” and “MARCH 1st 1867”. This is the date that Nebraska entered the union of the United States. The seal of Nebraska is designed to honor the settler’s importance to the state as well as the importance of agriculture. The meaning of the Nebraska is to properly represent the people of Nebraska and its values. The flag was designed by J. Lloyd McMAster.
