Swaziland Flag

Swaziland, or the Kingdom of Swaziland, is a country of about one million people, and it is located in Southern Africa. Swaziland declared its independence from the United Kingdom in the year 1968. During that same year, the current Swaziland flag was adopted.

Swaziland’s country flag has only had one design, which is that of the current Swaziland flag. The flag of Swaziland is made up of five horizontal stripes. These stripes, as seen from the top to the bottom, are blue, yellow, red, yellow, and blue. The yellow stripes on the Swaziland flag are the thinnest. The red stripe in the center of the flag of Swaziland is the largest, and it contains an emblem in its center. This emblem is a black and white shield, with two right-pointing spears behind it.

Each of the components of Swaziland’s flag has a particular meaning. The blue stripes stand for peace, while the red stripe represents war. The yellow stripes on the Swaziland flag stand for Swaziland’s resources. The shield and spears of the Swaziland flag mean protection from enemies, and the black and white colors of the shield represent peace between the races. The shield and spears of the Swaziland flag are also featured prominently on the Swaziland coat of arms.

There is also another type of Swaziland flag. This Swaziland flag is called the Royal Standard. The Royal Standard is used by the ruler of Swaziland. This Swaziland flag has the same configuration of horizontal stripes as the national Swaziland flag does, but features a yellow lion in the center. Other symbols of Swaziland can be found on the Royal Standard, within the two blue stripes at the top and the bottom of this Swaziland flag. This Royal Standard was adopted in the year 1986. The previous Royal Standard was used from the year 1968 to the year 1982, and more closely resembled the national Swaziland flag. The Swaziland Royal Standard flag used during this time period was identical to the national Swaziland flag, with the addition of a yellow lion in the top blue stripe.

The lion, as featured on the last two Royal Standard flags of Swaziland, is a royal symbol that is meant to stand for the king of Swaziland. This lion figure is also seen on the Swaziland coat of arms, along with an elephant that is said to stand for the Queen Mother of Swaziland.
