US Air Force Flag
The United States Air Force flag displays a coat of arms on a dark blue background. The coat of arms is surrounded by a three quarter circle consisting of thirteen white five-pointed stars. The thirteen stars represent the original thirteen colonies and a grouping of three stars in the upper center between the wings of a bald eagle have a double meaning. They also represent the three Departments of the National Defense. They represent the Army, Navy and Air Force. As just mentioned the coat of arms crest depicts a bald eagle under a formation of clouds. The formation of clouds stands for a creation of a new firmament. Right below the talons of the eagle is a wreath with six golden and blue alternating bands. These colors are the basic colors in the shields design. The bald eagle represents the United States and its airpower. The shield in the coat of arms is divided into two parts horizontally by a line of clouds. In the upper part of the shield a thunderbolt in golden yellow color with flames symbolizes the power in the air of the United States Air Force. The background in behind the thunderbolt is in light blue representing the sky. The lower part of the shield is of white color representing a metal silver color. Below the seal is a banner displayed with the words “United States Air Force” in golden letters. The flag measures 4 feet 4 inches in height and 5 feet 6 inches in width and is usually surrounded by a 2 ½ inches of golden silk fringe, which is used for proper indoor display of the USAF flag. The main colors used on the United States Air force flag are ultramarine blue and gold and are the Air Force’s official colors. The USAF flag is also called “Ceremonial Departmental Flag”
