US State Flags

The citizens of the United States of America have always been proud and patriotic of their country and one major way to show their patriotism is by flagging their streets and houses. Most often you will see the Unites States flag, also called often called “the Stars and Stripes” or “Old Glory”. The flag of the United States of America has thirteen equally spaced horizontal stripes in the colors red and white and a smaller blue rectangle in the upper left corner displaying currently 50 small white five-pointed stars. Of course each of the 50 United States states have their own US State flags. The US state flags are for sure displayed in the States capitals and at any official government or state military event. In the course of history, the US flag was changed several times. The original flag already included the thirteen horizontal stripes that represent the first original thirteen states that broke away from British government and became the first American union. Changes to the flag came though the throughout history added states up to number 50 right now. The currently used national flag of the United States has been in use since 1960, when the so far last state, Hawaii entered the list of States and also receiv4ed therefore a star on the Star spangled banner.

Design of the United States states flags display a wide variety of different topics and issues, most influenced by regional events and local history. Most of the states flags were designed in the 1890s, when each state wanted to be properly represented through a flag at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Besides a few, US state flags were adopted or designed between 1893 and World War I. Several popular surveys about states flags have determined the New Mexico flag as the best designed flag in general over all the other states, while one version of the Georgia's state flag used between 2001 and 2003 was determined to be the worst flag.

Oh, and by the way, these surveys also included Canadian provinces. Flags of the United States as well as the United States of America national flag can be bought at many flag and souvenir shops all over the US and the Ineternet and are displayed in many books and museums. As for the US national flag, there exist several laws of treatment for the flag. Flags cannot be thrown away, the only allowed method of disposing of an American flag is through burning and even burning might not be allowed much longer. To store a flag properly, at least the military way, this is not flag code, but might as well be, it has to be folded in a certain way, that ends up in a triangle shaped folded object.
