Utah Flag

The Utah state flag was adopted in 1913. Just like so many others of the fifty state flags, Utah’s flag depict the state seal on a dark blue background. The state seal on Utah’s state flag is encircled by a golden rim and displays two words as well as two dates. The blue in the field is a navy blue. The state seal of Utah consists of a shield that displays a beehive and flowers on either side of the beehive. Just below the beehive is the state’s name “UTAH”.

The word right above the beehive is “INDUSTRY” and represents Utah’s progress and also industrial commerce and labor. The top of the shield is adorned by six arrows and sitting right on top of the arrows is the bald eagle with its wings spread over the shield.
The bald eagle and the flags represent Utah’s recognition of and loyalty to the United States as well as the protection of the United States for Utah. On either side of the shield are two crossed United States flags and below the shield are the two dates. The smaller date right at the tip of the shield is 1847, this is the year that Brigham Young led the first Mormons into the territory of Utah. The bigger date right below this one is 1896, the year that Utah entered the United States union as 45th state.

The original state flag of Utah was adopted in 1896, the states entrance into the union. This flag had a white background and the state Seal of Utah on a light blue background. This flag was in use till the current flag was adopted in 1913. So, who made Utah’s state flag? This is not quite sure, the Artist Harry Edwards designed the seal and an embroidered version of the flag was made by Agnes Teudt Fernelius in 1903.
