Wales Flag

Have you ever heard of the Red Dragon? Guess which countries flag is called the Red Dragon; it is surely not one you might have thought of. The Flag of Wales actually has the name the Red Dragon. The Welsh flag has been adopted in 1959, but the red dragon has been associated with the Wales flag for centuries. Some people say that the Wales national flag with the red dragon is the oldest flag of Wales in use. The background of the welsh flag is a bicolor consisting of the colors white and green. The representation of the Red Dragon, being a heraldic symbol is as such not standardized and a few different versions do exist. How the welsh flag came to bear the dragon is lost in history and several myth do exist. One theory is that the Romans brought the dragon emblem to Britain during their occupation in Wales. Some say it is even older than that. The background colors are derived from the house of Tudor, a welsh dynasty that held the English throne in the years from 1485 to 1603. But the green and white colors are also used on other Welsh national emblems, such as the leek.

Like mentioned before, the exact meaning of the Welsh flag is therefore not very well known. The Welsh flag history, the cross of David Flag was several times being referred to as the national flag and some newer parties trying to govern in Wales are trying to remove the Red Dragon from the Welsh flag, for the reason that a dragon is a satanic symbol. There are several myths and legends telling about Merlin and red and white dragons, which are supposed to represent the war and fights between the British Celts (later Welsh) and the Saxons.
